Luggage and bags: The second time I went to Singapore, I arrived but my luggage decided to go to Frankfurt, Germany. I had nothing with me and had to shop for clothing and sundries in a country where everbody is size two. Eventually, a saleswoman took pity on me when I wandered finally into the Metro store at Marina Square. So-- I wasn't a fashion plate.
What I learned from this experience: When traveling with someone you live with (in my case, my husband) pack half of each of your things in one bag and half in the other. That way you both have things to wear if one pice of luggage is wayward. I have done this on every trip since my Singapore experience.
.
Luggage and bags: There is a fairly happy end to the story of the lost luggage. I photo copied all the receipts for the clothing I bought in Singapore. There were two for each item-- the charge slip for my credit card and the store receipt. I sent them to Delta (the airline that I flew on from Washington, D.C. to New York, since they were to airline that didn't get my luggage to Singapore Airlines on time). I received a reply from Delta that since the clothing was wearable they would only reimburse me for 80% of the cost. But whoever handled it was so stupid (what else) that all of the receipts were added up (both store and credit card receipts). Then 80% of the total was sent to me by check, so I wound up with 160% of what I spent.
Sometimes it pays to lose your luggage.
