The best way to approach Venice is by ship. To sail in past Piazza San Marco gives you the best view. If you sail in early in the morning, the plaza is actually empty and you can get a great picture. This is literally the heart of Venice. While other places can be more interesting to different people for various reasons, you cannot truly say you have seen Venice if you do not visit San Marco. The mural is also best seen from a ship. This picture was taken from aboard the Rotterdam as we came into Venice on May 20, 2001.
