Agadir is different from any other Moroccan city. It was built after the earthquake of 1961 which killed 15,000.
The new Moroccan nation was trying to prove that it belonged in the western world, and built the city accordingly. Consequently it is a European resort town.
It was built for tourism, with wide, straight streets, low rising houses, and the hotels placed between the city and the beach.
Agadir is one of the few places in Morocco where western style restaurants actually do serve good food.
The beach is clean, long and wide with a continuous breeze coming in from the Atlantic.
The fish market in Agadir is now a tourist attraction. |
