Kusadasi has to be one of the prettiest cities on the Aegean Sea. It has mild winters and hot summers. there are 300 days of sunshine per year.
History
Lelegians and Carians moved here from central Anatolia in 3000 BC.
Later, Panionian, as Kusadasi was then called, became the annual meeting place of the Ionian League.
It was invaded by Persian in 546 BC and was dominated by the Roman Empire in 200 BC. When the Roman Empire was divided, it became a state of Byzantine.
Because of serious earthquakes and the changed route of the Caystros River, Ephesus was mostly destroyed. As a result the Byzantines needed a new port.
The new port that was found convenient by Greek, Jewish and Armenian merchants was renamed Scala Nova. By the fifteenth century it was dominated by Venetian and Genoese sailors and traders.
Kusadasi began to be ruled by the Ottoman Empire in 1413 after the invasion by Sultan Mehmet Celebi.
The fortress gates and walls and many mosques in the center of Kusadasi were built in the Ottoman period.
Kusadasi was invaded by the Greeks in 1919, but the city won a long struggle and became part of the Turkish Republic in 1922.
- Pros:A wonderful place to visit, plus it is the gateway to Ephesus.
- Cons:None
- In a nutshell:Enjoy Kusadasi. It is a great resort area.
