Puerto Limón is Costa Rica's most important port. Columbus landed here in 1502 on his last voyage in the Indian town of Cariari which was located right here.

It is the best port of the Caribbean coast.
In the late 19th century the first shipments of bananas went to North America from here.

What the city lacks in beauty it makes up for in convenience.

There was a large flea market right near the pier.
