Under transportation you will find a map of Charlotte Amalie showing where all the important sights are. However, it's shopping that this town is known for.
Old warehouses stretch from the waterfront to Main Street. While they once held molasses, lumber, rum and spices, they now have modern shops.
Included among the shops are:
[ A. H. Riise Gift Mall | Amsterdam Sauer | Artistic | Ballerina Jewelers | Bared Jewelers | Base Caribbean Clothing | Beach House | Benetton | Bernard K. Passman Gallery | Big Planet | Blazing Photos | Blue Carib Gems | Bolero | Boolchand's | C.M. Caron | Camille Pissarro Gallery | Cardow Jewelers | Caribbean Print Gallery | Caribbean Safari | Carson Company Antiques | Cartier Boutique | Colombian Emeralds | Colombian Leather | Cosmopolitan | Cowboys & Indians | Diamonds International | Diamond Palace | Dilly D'Alley | Down Island Traders | Emerald Lady | Erno Laszlo | Etcetera | Frederick Gallery | Gem Palace | Grand Hotel Court | Grand Jewelers | Gucci | H. Stern Jewelers | Hard Rock Cafe | Imperial Jewelers | International Plaza Island Galleria | Janine's Boutique | Jewels Forever | La Fabric and Accessories | Little Switzerland | Lover's Lane | Lloyd's Gift Shop | Mahogany Art Center | MAPes MONDe | Mini Mouse House Toy Store | Mombassa African Imports | Monarch Jewelers | Mr. Tablecloth | Omni, Jewelers | Opals Of Australia | Pampered Pirate | Paradise Jewelers | Paramount Gift Shop | Parrot Fish Music | Pierre's Jewelers | Royal Caribbean | Royal Dane Mall | Sam Goodies | Seven Arches Museum | Shoe Box | Silver World | Soft Touch Boutique | Sparky's | Star Jewelers | The Leather Shop | The Linen House | Touch of Gold | Tropicana Perfume Shoppes | Universal Liquor & Gifts]
There are more stores a block away on Back Street.
The duty free prices are the best in the Caribbean and visitors to this US Territory are allowed an exemption of $1200 per person.

- Cons:Crowds
- In a nutshell:Shop till you drop

Thank you for the tips Joan. The maps are a great help...
Joan, although these are "older tips" they still have great value to one who is planning a trip. Thanks, Kat
Somehow I did never like that island very much. Everything is just based on duty-free-shopping, and in some cases things are just duty-free, BUT NOT cheap at all...
I never thought of buying liquor and shipping it home. Now, I will have to go back to save money on drinks. I enjoyed shopping here too.
