Villefranche is located on the Riviera. There are long sandy beaches, terrace cafés and restaurants. The vieille ville (old town) is especially interesting.
There is a steep slope to the narrow cobblestone and brick streets. The Rue Obscura, a block from the seafront, is completely covered for half its distance.
The port was created in 1295 by Charles d'Anjou
