The Steel city ,its got the FULL MONTY - Sheffield

I was born and bred in Sheffield. The city of Sheffield was founded on its steel industry. It was an ideal place to smelt steel as it had fast flowing rivers and numerous coal fields so when the industrial revolution came along in the 17th and 18th centurys Sheffield bacame a maker of iron and steel. It was also renowned for making stainless steel cutlery. Nowadays most of steel works have closed and so have most of the coal pits. Sheffield is regenerationg its self. It has meadowhall a large shopping centre, Don Valley stadium for athletics, The Sheffield arena for concerts, Ice hockey, basket ball, Ponds Forge international Olympic sized 50m pool and diving area. There are two universities and 80,000 students and a throbbing night life including 3 casinos. Two soccer teams Sheffield Wednesday(the OWLS) Sheffield United(the Blades),ice hockey(The sheffield steelers), Basketball(The Westfield Sharks), rugby league(Sheffield eagles), speedway, greyhound racing, numerous multiscreen cinemas a dry Ski slope and 3 municipal golf courses.
