Marriot: Don't know which one yet...

Didn't stay here, but if you like Marriots, here's one!

Theme: Hotel

Businessman's Hotel: Cheap!

With a feel more like an oven in a cheap, unimaginative hostel, this place is a decent place to stay, though our room had no knob to turn off the heat in the bedroom, and of course the staff was too incompetant to manage to find a wrench or pliers to fix it. The rooms don't all face outside, either- ours had a window that opened into the hallway. Inspiring, I tell you. But it was a place to stay and comfortable enough, despite the heat.

It was also close to the American Embassy (and many other embassies) though you'd have to walk a ways to get there (mile or so) and Silk Street. (See the "Silk Street Market" Things To Do tip.)

They also have a small store inside to buy necessities.

Unique Qualities: Bland. The bathrooms... oh yes... they were somewhat unique. In the west, we consider gas station bathrooms to be dirty. Chinese bathrooms, especially public ones, as a rule can only dream of the cleanliness of gas station bathrooms. These were no different, especially as they hadn't been cleaned all day. It is the fault of the people using them, of course, as it is their responsibility to hit the bowl out either end. Regardless, toward the evening and early morning, they were fairly dirty... I didn't feel like getting my shoes covered in urine and feces, so I opted out of using them. The next day they were better, I must say.
