  • Tip Rating:
  • First of all, water. Some of the trails (Bright Angel) provide water at certain points, but you should still bring plenty of your own. You don't want to be caught without water. Many foreigners we saw were begging and asking people for water as they didn't bring their own. You don't want to be caught in this dry and hot environmant without it.

  • Tip Rating:
  • Take the heat and add in miles of up-hill walking and you get: HEAT STROKE!!!! Take it easy on the trails, and wear sunscreen or light, long clothing to protect against the sun. It gets really hot in the canyon no matter how cool on the rims (unless in the winter).

  • Tip Rating:
  • Don't overexert yourself. Keep in mind that the farther you go down, the farther you gotta go to get back up! Sahib's Knee can be a problem on the way down, so watch your knees and step with a spring in your step. On the way up, don't be surprised if your legs get weak. Rest, but keep moving!

  • Tip Rating:
  • One of the canyon's activities is a donkey, mule, or horse-ride into the canyon. While this is fun for the riders, it can prove somewhat hazardous to hikers. Be on the lookout for these groups, and get to the side when you see them coming. It makes things easier for them and safer for you.

I'm still trying to get here... Thats an incredible hike if you can do it. Good warnings and sounds dangerous without enough water. Sadly I think I'd be taking the easy route... but good for you!!
