I used to go to Belize fairly often, mainly around the Punta Gorda area. Belize City is a beautiful town, and the Belize zoo is a must see. Admission is fairly cheap.
The swing bridge in Belize City is of historical interest.

Well, I have an idea for a really neat trip, but I need money...won't you please help a poor traveler in need? Donating just ten dollars, will feed and transport this simple traveler to the places he needs to go. From my heart to yours, thank you.
To donate to This Poor Traveler, please email for an address. Thank you. He won't let you down. ;)
The same goes for the whole of Belize. I was there just a short while ago, and much had changed from when I was there a long time ago ('95), sadly. Oh well. (I liked the Belize when the roads were dirt and not paved). But it is still one of those countries that holds me, draws me to it.

Hey, if you visit, stay at the Sea Front Inn. It is one of the best places there!

Camping In Belize

In response to an email I just received...

August is still pretty warm, but it can depend on how far you are from the
water, and if there's a breeze... expect it to be pretty warm, but not
unbearable. Where will you be going (Districts/cities)?

If it rains in the dry season, it is short. Often in either season, the storms
are short and heavy, but cool the day down.

We camped on private land in a thatched structure with a concrete floor and no
walls, save for waist-high fencing, so anything small could (and did) get in
there.

My most basic advice to people about travel in Central America is to take things
as they come and don't get worked up about anything. In camping there, just
remember to check your shoes in the morning and sleeping bag at night. And if
you have a tent, make sure it zips at the bottom and do zip it up. If you are
camping in the jungle, or even in prepared clearings, check the area for signs
of life and tracks. For example, if you see little trails of red ants, move
elsewhere.

100% Deet is useful, and not too bad for a short period of time.
