Aktau lies on the coast of the Caspian Sea. A port for oil and trade, no doubt, there isn't, in my limited experience with the place, a whole heck of a lot to do here. Frequented by rich oil people, there's an interesting mix of people. Clean enough, aside from the sand and dirt of a coastal city, Aktau offers some decent swimming, a few overpriced hotels and enough restaurants to keep you fed for a few days.
During our visit there was a birthday for the region, celebrated in the square outside the Hotel Aktau, with music and fireworks. Note to the singers: stick to your native tongue! |
