When bad looks good

These lands may not be good for farming or ranching like the surrounding country, but it is amazing to look at.

Watch the weather

I went in August. What was I thinking? It was very very hot. Be sure to bring lots of water with you. And it might be helpful to choose a cooler day. The Badlands are the most striking at the beginning and end of the day when shadows are long.

Some of the badlands are peaky and deep. Others are smoother and colorful. It was surprising to see the yellow and pink on these hills.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Great sights. Wonderful look outs
  • Cons:Can be hot and dry.
  • In a nutshell:Be inspired by God's creation!

Vaguely recall the steer on the roof from my miss spent youth. Hope your NZ adventure is going well. Still like mutton? Birthday greetings from Alaska.

I haven't been to the Badlands since 1948 - we camped at one of the overlooks. Looks pretty much like I remembered - b-a-d.
