"Gramado: German Influences" Gramado by kucha

Gramado Travel Guide: 12 reviews and 5 photos

Gramado is a small town 2 hours north of Porto Alegre. It is in a region called the Serra Gaúcha and was originally settled by German immigrants in the mid-1800's. As such, the town has a alpine / Bavarian flavor to its architecture.

In addition to its pretty scenery of rolling hills, woods and lakes, Gramado is known for its Gramado Film Festival, which is, to South America, what the Cannes Film Festival is to Europe. Gramado is also known for its beautiful hydrangea plantings. All this makes for some stunning photos and a beautiful changeo f pace from the Porto Alegre region.

If you're looking for unique shopping experiences, Gramado is also famous for its locally-produced chocolates and leather goods.

Dear Kucha, Just a small correction: the first settler to Gramado were not the Germans, but the Azoreans who came and settled there much before any other Europeans.
