When the name of Russia is mentioned, I have always pictured all those images that I have seen on TV of Red Square and St Basil's Cathedral. For me Moscow was these two places and I had to visit them as a matter of priority when I was whisked off on the overnight train from St Petersburg.
After actually being there, the city actually meant much more to me. Now I picture the changing of the guards near to the eternal flame, eating breakfast at 7.30am (a picnic on the edge of Red Square), or my efforts to stop myself from laughing the whole time I was in Lenin's Tomb. The city is the modern capital of Russia and quite a contrast to one of the older capitals - Stare Ladoga.
The city has many contrasts - from small kiosks in the subways to designer shops just near Red Square, from sub zero temperatures in winter to hot, balmy summer days.
