Nightlife Spot: Dvortsovy Most
It is well worth taking a late night trip to watch the bridges being raised to let ships through - and seeing car drivers speeding to get over the bridges before they are raised. Make sure you check the opening times before you go.

Nightlife Spot: Marinsky Theatre
There are some wonderful performances on offer from the ballet and the theatre. I managed to see War and Peace and would have gone again had I had chance to see The Marriage of Figaro, Swan Lake or The Nutcracker.

Dress Code: The Russians tend to dress up for the theatre and I was warned to take a dress for the event. While in the theatre I noticed that the Americans (of which there were a large number) tended not to dress up ... but the French did. If you aim to enter the theatre with a Russian price ticket dress in something that is not obviously of foreign origin. I never had any problems.
