Here in the UK I have found that many people express surprise when I mention that I am taking a trip to (or have visited) Poland. After all it isn't the usual preferred destination for many people.
How did I first come to visit the country? Well in 1989 (just prior to the collapse of the Berlin wall) I had the opportunity to attend a youth event in the city of Wroclaw. At that time I thought (foolishly!) that this would be the nearest that I would get to a trip to Russia (a childhood dream). I went for the first time in December of that year and returned home to a new decade.
Since that first trip I have now returned to various locations within the country and links have been strengthened by the fact that my brother now teaches English within the country.
A few facts about the country - the population is around 39 million. Its capital is Warsaw and some of the main cities include L?dz, Krak?w, Wroclaw, Poznan, Gdansk, Katowice and Lublin.
The people of Poland heve voted in favour of membership of the European Union. Their accession will take place in 2004. |

I like the way you write about the Polish Jews. We all lost so much by losing them.
