Greece - the country that is labelled as the cradle of Western Civilization. It is from here that we have drama, philosophy and democracy. Also it is the birthplace of the Olympic Games and what's more they're coming home in 2004. After much controvesy over the awarding of the 2000 games, the Olympic Comittee finally decided that Athens would get to host the games in August 2004 (but fail to forget the temperatures in the city at that time of year!)

There are over 3,000 Greek islands in total though only around a hundred are actually inhabited. The major groups are the Cyclades, Dodecanese, Ionian, Saronic, Sporades and North-Eastern Aegean. Some are major tourist traps, others are less well known.
