Poland is a wonderful place to visit and the fact that not that many people seem to realize this only makes it more so. Poland is a country that, through the centuries, has had to undergo various occupations and several partitions by foreign powers (the most recent being the soviets). Nonetheless it has managed to maintain a strong cultual heritage that you can't miss when you visit. Though western influence is making itself seen, you usually don't have to did very deep to find the authentic Poland underneath. I found Warsaw to a particularly facinating city. Here you could see three distinct phases in the city; the old town; the soveit era; and the post-soviet capitalism (you don't have to search that hard to find a McDonalds). Though the cities are facinating and absolutly filled with history I would encourage anyone to get out into the Polish countryside and small towns. This is where you can really feel what it is like to be Polish. We made a trip down to the very south of Poland into the Tatras mountains. Thy were spectacular and the hiking was excellent. You can also head north to the lake district with it's numerous park if you like the outdoorsey thing. |

kanarek Sun Oct 6, 2002 19:11 UTC The explanation of the may-june school trip craze is simple. At the end of May there are final exams at high schools - and this means all the junior students must get out of school. for at least two days. | TA600 Sat Feb 10, 2001 22:06 UTC Excellent pages with good information | panhof Sat Feb 10, 2001 18:50 UTC very interesting! | PKRAZY Sat Feb 3, 2001 15:16 UTC Great comments and pics, Andrew! |
