My boyfriend and I went on holiday to Fuerteventura in September 1998.We went on a last minute holiday with Skytours and stayed at the Dunas Caleta Apartments which were very nice.We stayed in the resort of Corralejo. Our apartments were self catering and the complex had a large swimming pool, bar, restaurant and evening entertainment. We were about a 10 min walk from the main part of Corralejo where all the shops and restaurants were and it was really nice in the evenings going out to stroll through the shops(they were open until late in the evenings. The food in the restaurants were extremely cheap (about £5 each for a 3 course meal)
Corralejo had its own small horseshoe shaped beach, but the best beach was a 10 min taxi drive down the main road to an absolutely beautiful 11km stretch of white sands and clear sparkling sea. They have massive sand dunes there as well, but beware-the sand gets really HOT.
The atmosphere is very friendly and laid back in Corralejo and the complex we were at was popular with families with children.Whilst there we went on a boat trip to Lobos Island which is just off the coast of Fuerteventura. This island has, I think 2 inhabitants who live in the lighthouse and thats it.Its a beautiful island. It has a small mountain on it which my boyfriend and I decided to climb.Make sure you take plenty of water when climbing as you are quite literally deserted and we were the only climbers(most people went to the beach on this island)so dont get dehydrated. Its definitey worth the climb though. At the top you can see the island of Lanzarote and the view is spectactular. There is one small restaurant on the island and it serves home made burgers with goats cheese(this cheese is a speciality there and is a mild creamy cheese-very nice). On the way back the boat we were on was a glass bottomed boat so we could see thrugh the water as it was so clear. It was a gentle ride and takes only about 15 mins back to Fuerteventura.
This photo is my boyfriend at the top of the mountain we climbed.
