I have been to Tunisia twice(May 1999 and July 2000)
Both times I really enjoyed it.The first time I went we stayed in the resort of Sousse. This is quite a cosmpolitan resort and mixes the tunisian culture(such as the walled medina) with the more modern shops and boutiques. The beach was superb-clear waters and white sand.We stayed at the Hotel Salem. It was one of a trio of sister hotels next to each other located right by the beach. The facilities, staff and food were all brilliant. We took part in a 2 day excursion to visit sights of Tunisia. If you go to Tunisia I highly recommend going on this trip.We saw the burba caves, the star wars lunar landscape,we went on a sunset camel ride in the sahara desrt,we saw oasis's,salt lakes and visited a roman ampitheatre and more.It was a fantastic way to see so much of Tunisia and very reasonably priced at about £60 per person (which included overnight stay in desert hotel and all food and entrance fees)
On our second trip to Tunisia we stayed at the Hotel Saphir in Hammamet.Again we were staying in another magnificent hotel with a lovely pool area and gorgeous food. The entertainment was brilliant also .We went on a excursion to the markets at the medina-not for the timid! You have to haggle and dont be scared by the stall holders, just say no and march on!!We also visited the capital of Tunisia,Tunis, and the main streets are very french influenced(the second language is french in Tunisia) with tree lined boulevards and fashionable boutiques. They had a massive medina market there too. Both times we went the weather was hot and sunny every day (about 30 degress celcius)
I really love the tunisian culture and definitely want to go there again.
