This is a Utah juniper. Though junipers are everywhere, the twist in slow-growing species in harsh, rocky places like GC enables water to reach the whole tree, even if parts of the root system die.
Very nice pictures and usefull infos!
If ever I make it to the US, the Grand Canyon is on top of my list!
I haven't visited the GC cafeterias, but I can imagine the "taste" from experiences at many other nat'l parks!
This leaves me breathless.
