The Centennial State

by morgandk - last update: Nov 20, 2005

My home state...at least I pay taxes there.

Could you ask for more from a landlocked state?

Scenic...Garden of the Gods, Royal Gorge, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Sange de Christo Mountains, the Collegiate Peaks, Great Sand Dunes National Monument, the Commanche National Grasslands, and Seven Falls.

Archaelogical...Mesa Verde, Dinasour National Monument (for the Okie purist!), Crow Canyon, and the Denver Museum of Natural History.

Historic...Leadville, Bent's Fort, Cripple Creek, Idaho Springs, Telluride, ghost towns and more!

Adventure...Sking, rafting, rock climbing, hunting, fishing, water skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, hanggliding, skydiving... the sky is the limit.

Catch Bronco Fever!

You have to love the Broncos! Another Super Year in 2005? At least beat the Raiders! You too can evolve into a Raider Hater!!

Fully in the Buff!

Historical

The remnants of Dinosaurs can be viewed in many parts of the state. Two places to see them are Dinosaur National Monument near Creede and Red Canyon Park near Canon City. The faboulus exhibit is at the Denver Museum of Natural History.
Native Americans left their 2,000 year old trace in the state's southwest corner. The mysterious and controversial possible cannibals left their mesa top and cliff dwellings behind an mysteriously dissapeared. Their ancient dwellings can be seen at Mesa Verde.
Spanish Conquistadors searching for Cibola gold named the state for the red adobe mud found along the Rio Grande riverbanks in the 1600's. The southern plains natives acquired of few caballos and life along what early 19th Century explorer Long called the "Great American Desert" changed forever!

Still a purist, though the jury may disagree. My Colorado page is fairly sad, is it not? I neglect the broader categories for the specifics.
