Cozumel is an island off the coast of the Mayan riviera. It is the largest island in Mexico, and has been inhabitated since the mayas came more than 2000 years ago. During the Classic period, 300-900.A.D., the island became one of the most important sanctuaries in the Yucatan region. You can still see traces of their old ruins.
The mainattraction on the island is snorkelling. The french diver Jaques Cousteau declared it one of the most beautiful scuba diving areas of the world in 1961. Since this tourists have come to explore the wonders of the world under sea. The second largest barrier reef in the world is right outside the coast, and it offers some spectacular views. Even if you've never tried snorkelling before, you have to put on a mask and head to the water. The amazing sights will blow you away! |
