Cary is a typical 'bedroom' suburban town, family-oriented, next to Raleigh, the capitol city of North Carolina state. From Washington D.C., it will take 5-hour drive due south to our place.

Nothing unusually interesting about this town, except most families living here are so-called 'middle class'. It is a relatively 'new' town, grew very rapidly for the past 3 decades.

There are good public and private schools, relatively speaking very SAFE, murder or robbery crimes are relatively rare.

The region we live in is called 'Triangle area', or Raleigh-Durham metropolitan area. Raleigh, together with Durham, and Chapel Hill, all three cities together make a triangle shape. At the center of this triangle, it is the Research Triangle Park (RTP), where many high tech companies are such as IBM, Nortel, Glasgow-Welcome (pharmacutical company), Ericsson, Sony-Ericsson Mobile and so on. The area was told to have the highest number of PhDs per capita in the whole country (I already heard others arguing about it).

According to year 2000 census, 8.1% of the Cary's population is Asian.

It is quiet and close to the countryside. From here, it would take 2-3 hours of drive to either the ocean/beach to the east or the mountains to the west.

It is not a big metropolitan areas like New York City. Since in many developing countires, the most affluent places are the big metropolitan areas/cities, where overall people's income and standard of living are higher than that of coutryside. Therefore, I often heard foreigners from developing countries saying 'This is not USA! I want to live in USA, not this countryside!' :) But the living environment often is much nicer in the countryside/suburbs, generally speaking.

There are many good neighborhoods in big cities as well, nonetheless. But then, usually these neighborhoods will be VERY expensive.

Our area once has been ranked by Money magazine (and others) 'Number 1' place for business and living since early 1990s and 'No.1 place to retire in 2004. In early 90s, it is said that about 1,000+ of people moving into NC daily. Where would they move to? Not many to very rural areas, big proportion of them come to here! The roads are getting much crowded, the traffic is much worse than years ago. All the beautiful trees are cut down in order to make room for new houses.

In 1990, Cary had a population of 40K, now 100K, try to imagine how fast it gets crowded. Who are those new comers? Have you heard of " Clustered Area of Relocated Yankies", Cary is their very destination!

Traffic during rush hours is really bad now, they are already talking about building an elevated HOV lane facility along I-40, the main freeway connection all the MPOs in the Triangle area. The other options include starting a light rail train from north Raleigh to Cary, RTP, then Durham, eventually to Chapel Hill and RDU airport.

Traffic during weekend is no better either. Some subareas near shopping malls such as Cross roads shopping area, the traffic could be worse than weekend rush hours.

North Carolina has a relatively mild climate. Decades ago, those people from north would retire to Florida or somewhere for a warmer weather. Now, more people retire to NC as well. NC people are very proud to say 'Everyone goes to Florida for vacation, but where do Florida people go for vacation? North Carolina!'

There are three very good universities in the triangle area: Duke Univeristy (a private school and expensive) in Durham, Univerisity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (first public university in US with more than 200 years of history), and North Carolina State University (good at engineering) in Raleigh.

[2004] Last time Mr. Dolalr was campaigning for Cary Town Councile, this time, he is targeting at the NC Congress.

A Batcheler with Powers and Dollar, all the very charm we need in politics!

Hope we still have our trees: otherwise, soon, Cary will lose its natural charm, and turn into any boring suburbs seen everywhere in USA.

With rapid increase in population, congestion, and so on, Cary ranked 34th 'best' place to live after years of #1.

People keep coming: 30+ new houses are built DAILY in Wake county, trees are all gone, yard is getting ever smaller: you would be able to have a great party sharing with your neighbor's houses: just open the windows during that special occasion, unless you buy $million houses with large yard/woods - and these are plenty and more and more are built.

• Pros:Charm and safe, beautiful, good school, diversified
• Cons:Crowder roads, more expensive housing
• In a nutshell:No. 1 place to live, do business, or retire!
