Uhhh...strange of VT to put Quezon City in a separate category when it is actually a suburb of Metropolitan Manila. Who do I talk to about this? :)

At any rate, far be it from me to waste precious VT space! The funny thing is that although I was born and raised here, I don't have too many pictures of my home city...probably because it's a relatively young part of the metropolis with hardly any major historical sites, and because I know it like the back of my hand and never felt the need to take any photos!

A little history lesson:
Quezon City began as a dream of one of the greatest Philippine Presidents, Manuel Luis Quezon. In 1938, President Quezon purchased 1,529 hectares from the vast Diliman Estate of the Tuason Family. The following year, the Charter creating the city was signed into law, thereby giving "birth" to the city. Quezon City's growth continued until the outbreak of World War II in 1941. Seven years later, by virtue of Republic Act No. 333 signed on 17 July 1948, Quezon City officially became the capital of the Philippines and the permanent seat of the national government. However, it lost its title as capital city of the Philippines to Manila by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 940 on 24 June 1976. :( As little kids, we had to relearn the country's capital all over again!
Quezon City remains an integral part of the nation's political make-up, considering that it is home to several of the national government's departments, including the House of Representatives. It is the biggest city in the Metro Manila Area, lying immediately northeast of the City of Manila (proper) and straddling the northern extension of the Guadalupe plateau. In terms of land area, Quezon City is the second biggest in the country, being next in size to Davao City.
Quezon City also has the dubious distinction of being the Philippines' answer to Hollywood: all major television stations and movie outfits are located here. Needless to say, an actor is running for Mayor of Quezon City in the May 2001 elections...despite the fact that Filipinos ousted an actor-President earlier this year. Perish the thought!

|
