You know what they say about the best laid plans. I thought I had my Italian itinerary all figured out --- 4 days in Rome, 2 days in Florence, 3 days in Venice; but of course some things just weren't meant to be. I ended up spending most of my time in Rome, with side trips to Naples, Capri, and Sorrento. But a visit to Florence was definitely non-negotiable, if only to gawk at the magnificence of the Santa Croce and haggle with the sidewalk vendors on Piazza San Lorenzo. Although a day in Firenze was hardly enough to take in everything, the memories of my brief adventure are enough to tide me over until my next visit!
