Italy

by tabatha - last update: Sep 9, 2002

Fascinating combination of old culture, wonderfull landscape, beautiful language, friendly people, great food, and, girls, i donīt think that italian guys are the ugliest ..LOL.
I passed my holldays a few times in Italy: Toscana, Sicilia, Gargano, Roma, Milano and every time I had to leave, I had to cry !

La Bella Italia !!!

What do I like:

1. The italians are mostly very friendly and helpful. Especially UTTTZ, special thanks for some tips .
2. Not to be stressed up because of the job (with some exceptions, e.g. in Milan)
3. Of course the weather. I passed my Sicily hollydays in september and it was still 35 degrees warm.
4. The cities. My #1: Firenze and then a lot of other beautiful places: Siena, Taormina, Arezzo, Palermo aso.
5. The food. I staied for 10 days in an italian family with my school exchange. All the food was handmade, even the pasta. OK, after this 10 days i had 5 kilos more, but it was deffinitly worth.
But not only the menu. Iīve got a big problem with the taste of some vegetables here in germany. Why could be a tomato in Italy so great and here in Germany so awfull ?
6. Espresso. I donīt like very much the filter coffee, I really miss the true coffee taste
7. The italian language: so wonderfull, so beautifull !
Karl V from Spain said: " In spanish I talk with God, Italian with the women, French with the men and German with my horse"
8. Not to forget on of the best soccers of the world "La Nazionale", for me the best one not only because they are great in playing this sport but also for the most beautifull plaiers in the world ! (Cannavaro, Totti, Maldini, Nesta)
(BTW hope sincerly that next time Italy get the World Cup. Forza Italia)
9. La musica italiana: wonderfull Gianna Nannini, Edoardo Bennato, Eros Ramazzotti, Adriano Celentano aso
10. La musica classica: Verdi, Puccini, Rossini, Vivaldi, ...
11. The big stars of the film: Marcello Mastroianni, Sophia Loren, Fellini, Zeffirelli, Benigni,...
...
To be continued...

What I donīt like:

1. Most italians donīt speak english, for me not a problem, my italian is ok, but the reason: italian is a world language so everybody has to speak it ????
2. The prices for the touristic spots: is it really necessary to pay 6 $ for seeing da Vincis "līultima cena" ??? Is culture only for reach people ?
3. The very touristic Riviera by Rimini. I canīt standing being on the beach and having ony a few centimeters for my own. And all this ugly hotel buildings !
4. Some times not feeling in secure. Pickpocketers !
...
To be continued, although I donīt think Iīll find lot of things i DONīT like
