Antwerp is the second city of Belgium and has after Rotterdam the biggest harbour in Europe.
Antwerp has several legends of for example Brabo and Antigoon, Lange Wapper and Jan zonder Vrees. |

| | The explanation of the name Antwerp has two stories. Namely from the legend of Brabo and Antigoon. Antigoon was a giant, who cashed toll from the sailors crossing the river Schelde. The sailors where fat up with the guy and their hero Brabo cut off the hand of the giant Brabo and threw it in the river. In dutch or flemish "Hand werpen" is Hand throwing, which became Antwerpen in time. The more plausible explanation although is the one coming from the dutch word 'aanwerpen', which became Antwerpen. Aanwerpen comes from the time ships used to stop at a landslide in the Schelde called Aanwerp. Useful Link is: Visit AntwerpGreetings Roeffie |
