In 1720 a peacetreaty ended the big Nordic War. About that time Architect J.C. Krieger completed this palace at the Esrum Sø, which he made for King Frederik IV. Ending the Nordic War was the ground why they called the palace Fredensborg. "Freden" means peace. The king and his family moved here from Fredriksborg which is a few km further in the town of Hillerød. Since that time the Danish Royal Family comes here often to enjoy the rest of the village, palace and gardens.
The interior of the palace is only shown to the public in july from 13.00 to 16.30 hrs. through guided tours. We didn't visit the interior, because of the fact it is started in guides ther is not much to see inside and a guided tour with a 1 year old seems to be a bad idea. |
| | Nevertheless it is a nice place to have a stop when you're passing. I think it must not be a goal on itselve to visit this castle. Although the gardens are very nice. The park was designed by N.H. Jardin (What's in a name!) Just take a walk through the park and see how the Danish Royal Famliy lives! |
