From about 1600 to 1720 when the royal family moved from Hillerød to Fredensborg. This was the place where the royal family lived, received their important guests etc. Nowadays the Castle is a museum, The Museum of Danish history. The Castle has a huge collection of paintings, gobelins and furniture.
