  • Favorite Thing: visit Spanish Steps and Trinita dei Monti.

The Trinita dei Monti church was established by the French in 1495. In the 17th century the French owners of the Trinita dei Monti church decided to connect the church with the Piazza di Spagna. That was the sign to build the Spanish Steps. Often the Spanish Steps are filled with beautiful flowers.

Emperor Vespasianus commissioned building Rome's biggest amphitheater in 72 A.D. At that time there were 80 entrances and could accomodate 55,000 people.

Fondest Memory: All the beautiful buildings from the Roman Empire. It is fantastic to see what things they already could built more then 2000 years ago.

Imagine you had to built the Colloseum, without help of the tools and machines we have nowadays.

It's name derives from the statue of archangel Michaël at the top of the fortification. In the year 139 A.D. it still was the mausoleum of Hadrian. Since then it functioned as part of the Aurelian wall, medieval stronghold, a prison and papal residence.
A museum with 58 rooms show you each aspect of its history: from the damp cellblocks to the breathtaking quarters of the papal residence.

Interesting is the Vatican Corridor, a tunnel from the Vatican to the Castel Sant'Angelo. The corridor was built in 1277 as an escaperoute for the pope.

The building of Trevi Fountain was finished in 1762 by a design of Nicola Salvi. Central figure in the fountain is Neptune. It is a beuatiful piece of art.

Good advice about 1st of May. I arrived on 30 April and decided to head east to Ancona, and it was much the same there- little open , but at least the buses were running. And I loved Ostia Antica too.
