In 1873 King Ludwig II bought Herreninsel to built a castle which had to be a better copy of Palais Versailles. The project stopped because of a lack of money. Nevertheless it's a beautiful palace with lots of beautiful details.
Unfortunately one is not allowed to photograph the interior.
