this is a Texas hot spot for tubing (pronounced tooo-bing), Schlitterbahn (a water park), the Comel and the Guatalupe rivers are all available for fun. You don't need your own rafts or tubes in fact it is kind of frowned upon. Get yourself a tube with a bottom ($8 to $10 including transport) and go feed your soul where the sun, and the river meet. The hill country is really more beautiful than I can describe.
Guatalupe is rustic location for camping, favorite sites there are Gilligans Island (where you can rent a private camp site on a small island in the middle of the river, if you reserve far enought in advance www.gilligansislandnb.com) and B-K's where the phone number is unlisted they have only 16 sites all have large trees and privacy all are close to the river, the large sites overlook the chute and the falls (very small, spill your beer and skin you knees falls), no amenaties but some porta potties and you can't camp there unless they like you, but quiet and beautiful with large sites and trees between each... the Comel runs right thru New Braunsfels and is salt water which springs up from the aquaphor, picture a strip of the caraiban ocean running thru the middle of Texas, beautiful blue green water, easy transport up and down the river. Lovely town really. We usually do the Comal as our "last gasp" for a couple of hours before we head back on our last day, because you can do it in about 3 or 4 hours. Lots and Lots of schuttle busses to drag you back to where you came from for about $2.00 a head. Schlitterbahn is a waterpark just off the river, beloved by many, but frankly is not my thing...
