Kingdom of Saudi Arabia - Riyadh I traveled to Riyadh in early March, 2005. That's spring, so it was quite warm - 79F up to about 88 or more in the sun, and that means it's hot under the abaya which you MUST wear in Riyadh.
I saw no other women travelers in my hotel, only French, Italian and very few American businessmen, but I felt safe with Saudi friends and acquaintances. The only hassle for them is more traffic and delays due to the checkpoints that are part of the ongoing security program, so it takes time to get around Riyadh - which is a large city of over 4 million people.
I certainly hope that US-Saudi relations improve and that Saudi Arabia can develop some of its very interesting tourist sites. |
