Alexandria - Iskandariyya Recently visited Alexandria. My first visits were long ago - then went frequently in 1980, 1981, when many people summered or took vacations in Alexandria or Agami. These days, it is now more fashionable for Egyptians to go to the North Coast (meaning further west along the Mediterranean).
I love staying in the Hotel Filistin (Palestine Hotel). But one can rent a flat in Alex too, and stay for a fraction of the cost. Rented this time in Semouha, which is south of the Mountaza area; train station is convenient Gave a completely different picture of this city. |
Flat Renting The flat we found was completely furnished, not in perfect shape, but just fine for a shorter stay. Cost was about $350 for two weeks, as compared to rentals in Cairo which seemed to be much higher $500 and up or compared to a nice hotel at tourist prices ($200) a night, or internet deal ($140 -160).
The ambience was something out of a 1960s movie -
Small grocery stores around, and found a giant supermarket up in Mountazah with cheaper sheets and towels. |
