Update march 2009 - 2nd time in Prague (first time September 2003), short visit just to remember the beauty city of Prague (also on grey weather) and meet VT member dianka :)

Placed on both banks of the river Vltava, Prague is a gathering of castles, over 120 churches, palaces, public buildings, and it's main 'ingredient', over 180 bridges, together with houses, buildings that illustrates all architectural and architectonic european styles. Vltava is now crossed by 13 large bridges and many smaller ones. Back in 9th century, here were raised two castles. Tha first one, Vysehrad, on the right bank of Vltava, owned by only one king (Vratislav) and was use more as a fortress, and Prazky Hrad, on the left bank, becoming the center of the city and of the head of states, being reconstructed and rebuilt till nowadays. Surrounded by time with other construction, it became Hradcany - The Fortress. Later on, on the left bank appears Mala Strana (The small city) and on the right bank Mala Strana (The old city). Expanded on the south part, that becomed Nove Mesto (The new city).
The strongest period of the city was in the 14th century, when king was Carol IV |
