Tyrolean traditional costume - Innsbruck

Tyrolean traditional costume

Tyrolean Folk Museum

This is the Museum of Tyrolean Folk Art, showing an important ethnic collection of households, furnitures, costumes, farming tools, masks and nativity scenes from the Alpine regions. It gives a very good and graphical inside of how people in Tyrol used to live.

Grand Ballroom inside Hofburg - Innsbruck

Grand Ballroom inside Hofburg

Hofburg - The Imperial Palace Hofburg Review

The most important museum of Innsbruck is The Imperial Palace (Hofburg) - the 15th century where the provincial royalties used to live. This is a must visit palace while in Innsbruck. The interiors, formerly 25 apartments, are very impressive. I have liked especially the grand ballroom (click to enlarge the picture).

Bronze statues guarding Maximilians I tomb - Innsbruck

Bronze statues guarding Maximilians I tomb

Hofkirche and it's larger than life statues Hofkirche Review

The Hofkirche is a must visit while in Innsbruck. Inside there is the tomb (though empty) of the Emperor Maximilian I and the 28 bronze larger than life (bigger than the real people they show) statues, guarding his tomb. The statues are impresively carved (or I guess better to say is casted).

Domkirche - Innsbruck, Austria

Domkirche Domkirche Review

Domkirche and the Wilten Basilica looks pretty the same from the distance, both having the two tower facade. But you should visit both. The gothic interior is worth entering, even for a short while.

Helblinghaus - Innsbruck

Helblinghaus

Helblinghaus Helblinghaus Review

Right near the Golden Roof, you can't miss it, it is the Helblinghaus. This residential house was built in the 15th century, but in a gothic style. Later, in the 18th century, it was decorated by the owner - Johann Fischer - in the baroque style that makes it so distinctive. The name comes from Hans Helbling, a owner of a small cafe here in 1833.

Stadtturm (City Tower) - Innsbruck, Austria - Innsbruck

Stadtturm (City Tower) - Innsbruck, Austria

Climb Stadtturm to see the Goldenes Dachl Stadtturm (City Tower) Review

The Stadtturm is Innsbruck's old City Tower, an annex of what used to be the City Hall, probably used mainly as a watch tower (to look for fires). Built at the middle of the 15th century, the architecture is very nicely done, with the colorful clock and the nice round shaped part which you can see when on the upper terrace. I guess this is a must climbing the hundred and something steps (free with the Innsbruck card .. but I can't remember how much without it .. anyway you should get the Innsbruck Card).

Address: Herzog-Friedrich-Str. 21, A-6020 Innsbruck

Directions: Near the Golden Roof .. on your right .. you can't misss it

View from Bergisel Ski Jump - Innsbruck, Austria - Innsbruck

View from Bergisel Ski Jump - Innsbruck, Austria

Bergisel Ski Jump Bergisel Review

On the south bank of the river Inn you can't miss the Ski Jump, the pride of Innsbruck - Bergisel. The tower is 47 meters tall and the access is made with an wire-tracted lift (funicular) getting up some 30 (or maybe more) people at once. The view of Innsbruck from Bergisel Jump Tower is pretty impresive. Though you can have higher points of view from both of the mountains surrounding Innsbruck, here is more easy to climb (car & lift). At Bergiesel you will also find a fancy (carefull, it's also pricy) restaurant, vith a perfect view over Innsbruck and its mountains.

The visit to Bergisel Tower will cost an adult € 7,9 (for the funicular up to the tower, then the elevator up the restaurant and the jumping point is free). If you're there by car, there is a parking 5 minutes from the jump, charging € 3,2.

Alpine Zoo - Innsbruck
Alpine Zoo Alpenzoo Review

Innsbruck has a pretty nice Zoo (Alpine Zoo), located in the north part if the city and apparently being the highest zoo in Europe. To be perfectly onest, though the zoo alledgedly hosts over 2000 animals, I was not so much impresses, than I was with the Schonbrun Zoo in Vienna and the Artis Zoo in Amsterdam. Nevertheless, if you are fond of visiting zoos in every city that you travel, go ahead and pay a visit. They were also expanding it I think.

Address: Weiherburggasse 37

Directions: Take the Shuttle Bus in front of the Imperial Palace. The farthest stop (where the bus driver rests for some minutes) is the Alpen Zoo.

View from the City Tower - Innsbruck, Austria

The other roofs than golden :) Old Town Review

Climb the stairs of the Tower of the City and you will have the most beautiful view of the old town in sunset. Roofs are the thing to see in this part of Innsbruck .. so pretty .. and the mountains to one side and to the other are magnificent.
