Going to Speyer was part of the complicated plan of our holiday in June 2005 when we have traveled almost non-stop in a 12 days tour of Germany and Suisse. I saw and hear about this museum with cars, planes, locomotives and stuff and I decided it is an interesting point to see. So it's settled and I went there the day after visiting Rhine Falls (in Suisse) and after staying in the budget hotel Formule 1 in Mannheim (just rest for the night, no time to visit the city).
Technik Museum Speyer is really a very interesting museum like no other art museum or something. It is open 365 days a year, it has an indoor area of 16,000 mp and 150,000 mp outdoor, and it features among exibits: a completely walk-in Boeing 747 (raised in the air about 30 meters and featuring a 54 m long slide down), an Antonov 22 (largest propeller aircraft), a U9 German Navy submarin, 40 fire engines and 20 locomotives (two of which are gygantic), 70 aircrafts and heicopters, 10 of them walk-in, 50 vintage cars, a boat and its own Hotel with caravaning site. Oh, and I almost forgot - you will find here an IMAX dome 1000 square meters screen cinema.
