| The Royal Palace of Herrenchiemse was modeled by King Ludwig II of Bavaria after Versailles, given his total admiration for King Louis XIV of France. Being similar in many aspects, to the risk of becoming a copy, Herrenchiemsee Palace is known as the "Bavarian Versailles". The palace was not finished when Ludwig II died in 1886, and it's still incomplete to the present day. Nevertheless, it is a must visit while in Bavaria, for the castle itself and also for the great location on the Herreninsel in the Chiemsee lake. |
