  • Fukuoka Dome is a huge stadium located next to Fukuoka Tower on the waterfront. It is home to the Daiei Hawks, one of Japan's best Baseball teams.

It is possible to visit the dome anytime although definately better for a game! I don't like baseball but I went once just to soak up the atmosphere.

The dome itself is as much an attraction as the pro-team it houses. It was the first ever retractable roof arena ever built in Japan. The dome is also used for other sporting and cultural events (concerts) throughout the year.

  • When you come to Fukuoka you shouldn't miss a trip to Fukuoka Tower. There are some great views of the city from the top of the tower. The structure itself is interesting to look at and there are lots of shops nearby and the Dome.

  • Ohori Park is a beautiful park that is actually an inlet from the sea that was reclaimed about 100 years ago. The park also utilises the moat of the ruined Fukuoka Castle
There is a large pond with a 2km jogging track around it and an island in the middle. The art museum, japanese gardens and a noh theater are all located within the grounds.

Every August the summer fireworks festival is held here which is a spectacular site (but watch the crowds!!).

In the spring time it is the perfect place to view the Cherry Blossoms but beware everyone else in Fukuoka will be doing the same!!

    Directions: Take Nishitetsu buses (#10,15,20,21)
to Ohori Koen bus stop. Alternatively, walk up Keiyaki dori out of Tenjin. It takes about 30 minutes from there.
Go by subway to Ohori-koen station and walk 1 minute.

  • Maizuru Jo was built by Lord Nagamasa Kuroda in the early 17th century. The castle has never been reconstructed and now only the Otemon Gate and Tamon Turret of the castle remain. The ruins are situated in what is now known as Maizuru Koen.

I'll have to revisit your page, but like what I see so far. Would you recommend New Year's in Fukuoka?

I thought Fukuoka is a region of places. Btw In WorldWar II this was the place my uncle died in a japaneese concentrationcamp. Greetings from Holland.
