Samara is a city of about 1.5 million people situated on the east bank of the Volga River in the middle third section of the river. Samara used to be known as Kubeychev after he revolutionary leader.
On the western side of the river is Europe (according to the Russians) where Zhiguly National Park can be found (this is also the name of Samara's local beer!! In summer the Volga serves as a place to swim in, catch the suns rays or drink a beer beside. In winter it is possible to ski across it to the national park or partake in a spot of winter swimming!!
