Luggage and bags: Mongolia is not a 'suitcase' kind of country. I would recommend travelling as light as possible and using a good backpack with a daypack attached.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Mongolia is a country of extreme weather conditions. Depending on the time of year you go you should pack accordingly. For summer: It is rather hot so make sure you take shorts and t's. The evenings can get cool especially in the Gobi and mountains so take some long pants and a jacket (one that is good for wet weather). Some sturdy shoes will come in handy.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Summer is mosquito time so take some repellant and a good antihistamine cream to put on bites. It would be a good idea to bring a general medical kit but you can get most things in Ulaan Baatar.
Photo Equipment: I was able to buy film and batteries in Ulaan Baatar and the photo quality was good also (after developing). I got my photos developed at the Konica shop in Ulaan Baatar on Peace Avenue.
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: If you go camping you will probably be given a tent to use by your tour company. Bring your own if you like. A lightweight sleeping bag is always a good thing to have.
