Visit MAASTRICHT, a small town... - Netherlands
Visit MAASTRICHT, a small town...

Visit MAASTRICHT, a small town at the Belgium border. It took us about 3 hours to get there from Leiden via Utrecht.
Here in Maastricht you can see the only hill in the country (you remember that Holland is absolutely flat), and besides the most tasty pastries of the country are baked HERE! Maastricht prides itself on 5 Gothic churches: three Monastic churches - Dominicaner, Minderbroeders and Kruisheren; and two parish churches - St. Mathys' and St. Jan's. See the picture taken from the tower of St. Jan's. And in Masstricht there is a wonderful park with lots of animals and birds - deer, goats, pea-cocks, rabbits. Some goats are tame, you can stroke them.

Visit ZAANDAM - a small... - Netherlands
Visit ZAANDAM - a small...

Visit ZAANDAM - a small village of scenic beauty where I saw a great number of windmills.
It is a special place for me because here one can see a hut of the Russian king Peter the great who learned ship-building in Holland. You'll see planty of small museums here - museums of bread, wooden shoes, boats and cheese. Inside the museum of cheese you may see the cheese in different stages of its making. The streets seem polished - museum cleanness! Here in Zaandam I first noticed that the ground is below the sea level!

Visit ROTTERDAM, which differs... - Netherlands
Visit ROTTERDAM, which differs...

Visit ROTTERDAM, which differs greatly from Amsterdam, Leiden and the Hague. You will be impressed by the new city centre with its ultra-modern, even futuristic architecture. It required enormous effort to rebuild the city after the Second World War. Primarily Rotterdam is famous as a port.
Go around Rotterdam by water - you will see huge docks, the university named after Erasmus of Rotterdam, the TV tower.

In the HAGUE: pay a visit to... - Netherlands
In the HAGUE: pay a visit to...

In the HAGUE: pay a visit to MADURODAM, the 'smallest town' in Holland.
Here you can see the most famous buildings from all over the country, but reduced in size. I really fell like Hulliver in the country of Lilliputians. Everything there is so close to life - figures of people are moving, the water in rivers and canals is flowing, airplanes in Schiphol airport are also moving, windmills are whirling. Madurodam is charming!

Directions: The Miniature Town Madurodam, Haringkage 175, 2584 EE The Hague - Holland

Visit the HAGUE, the official... - Netherlands
Visit the HAGUE, the official...

Visit the HAGUE, the official residence of Queen Beatrix. It is also the home of parliament, a city of promenades, shopping arcades and parks. Near the Hague there is the fashionable seaside rsort SCHEVENINGEN. In the museum MAURITSHUIS you'll see canvases of Rembrandt, Rubens, Cranach and others.

Why not pay a visit to DELFT,... - Netherlands
Why not pay a visit to DELFT,...

Why not pay a visit to DELFT, a charming city full of culture not far from the capital?
It is world famous for its fine porcelain and the history of the Dutch Royal family. It is the city of William of Orange, the forefather of the Royal family. I saw the bullet holes in the walls of the PRINCENHOF, the former residence of William of Orange who was murdered there.

I was impressed by Scheveningen, a fashionable resort on the North sea.
Beautiful sea-front with luxurious hotels, restaurants, shops. On the beach I saw an elephant. I think it was brought to amuse tourists.

It was a pleasure to walk... - Netherlands
It was a pleasure to walk...

It was a pleasure to walk around MIDDELBURG, the capital of the province ZEELAND. It is a quiet beautiful Dutch town which astonished me by its sterile cleanness. It is ideal for shopping, resting, enjoying the scenery. I still remember having tea in one of the cafes in Abdij Square as if it were yesterday.
