If you, like me, had only one day in Venice, you would try to get the most of it, I am sure. Many years passed since I've been there, but I remember everything as if it were yesterday! Just walk! Wander around the town, and you'll get impressions for the rest of your life! Buy a fool's cap and put it on! Have a look how the skilful hands of glass-blowers make fantastic things of Murano glass. Spend an hour or so in the Square of Saint Mark. But don't walk between the columns of Dukes' Palace - you may be deprived of your head. It's a joke, of course, but long ago convicts used to be led between them. Admire the bazilica of Saint Mark with 5 domes and mosaic vaults. Stop on the Bridge of Sighs for a minute - Lord Byron often mentioned it in his poems. And have a gondola sail - the view of canals and Rialto Bridge is wonderful! |
