The City of Paradox

by maxovna - last update: Feb 12, 2001

The city is situated on the height of 850 meters above the sea level. It is more than 4000 years old!!! It was founded by the king David 3000 years ago, but it existed before the jews for about 1000 years. In Jerusalem there are two hubs of the universe - Omar Mosque (the sacred place of the Moslem) and Golgotha (the place where Jesus Christ was crucified). Jerusalem was conquered 36 times, in 1948 it was divided between Israel and Jordan. It is probably the most paradoxical city in the world. It's a cradle of three religions - Christianity, Judaism and Islam. Just behind the Wailing Wall (the most sacred place for the Jewish people) you can see the dome of Omar Mosque, the sacred place for the Moslem.
