Since Duarte is my home town I thought I should write something about it, but I thought who in the world would be interested in Duarte. But, Duarte has one claim to fame and that is the City of Hope, a world renown cancer research center and hospital. Then I remembered we build and decorate many of the floats in the Rose Parade which is televised throughout the world every New Year's Day.
Duarte is also on the historic Route 66, each year we celebrate with a parade and throughout the year, try desperately to keep Route 66 alive by naming buildings ?Route 66 Tavern? or Route 66 Car Wash and whenever a new business starts it's also named Route 66 something or other. Those not familiar with Route 66; it's the old highway that ran coast-to-coast long before freeways by-passed the cities and towns. Many of the small towns were nearly abandoned as their revenue from truckstops and cafes dried up from lack of travellers. These small towns were the real heart of America and a great movement to memorialize this route has begun. |
| | We Still Have Horses There is still horse property in Duarte, it's slowly being sold off at exhorbitant prices as more housing is needed. These guys are right across the street from where I live and I visit them often. |
| | Where is Duarte Duarte sits in the San Gabriel Valley 7 miles east of the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on the north side of the 210 Freeway in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains.
