The Sea of Galilee

Israel was my introduction to the Middle East. It is very different from Europe and the US. Different customs and ancient surroundings. The picture above is of the Sea of Galilee taken at 6:15 a.m. I was the only one by the sea and it was a very spiritual experience, one I will never forget. The main reason I made the trip to Israel was that my son was getting married in Old Jerusalem at Christ Church, an Angelican church in the Christian Quarter. That was a very special time for me.

IT SADDENS ME THAT THIS WONDERFUL AND SIGNIFICANT COUNTRY IS IN SO MUCH IN TURMOIL AND PEOPLE ARE BEING KILLED. I WAS SO FORTUNATE TO VISIT THERE WHEN IT SEEMED TRANQUIL. PEACE PLEASE!

Another Morning

I took this picture the second morning when I awoke, nearly the same sunrise as the first morning - maybe it's always like this.

Galilee is also called "Sea of Tiberias" from the city of Tiberia on it's banks. The fertile plane surrounding the sea is called "Gennesaret" so Galilee is also called the "Lake of Gennesaret". It has had many names throughout history.

During the life of Christ the surrounding region was the most densely populated in Palestine. Nine cities rested on its shores. And during that time there were large fisheries as the lake abounded with fish.

Galilee is only 27 miles from the Mediterranean and 60 northeast of Jerusalem. It has almost a tropical feel and banana trees grow on it's shore.

Another great page! To tell you the truth, I lived 27 years in Israel and I haven't been in some of the places you wrote about! It is amazing! Next time I am in Israel I need to visit these places!!! :)
