"Doneygal Town" Donegal by Goner

Donegal Town is located at the mouth of Donegal Bay in Northwest Ireland in the province of Ulster home of the McDonnell Clan who were the richest of the Irish ruling families until the 16th century. The McDonnels were known for chasing away the Vikings when they set up camp here in the 9th century.

Donegal is ‘Dun na nGall’ in Galeic which means "fort of the foreigner".

County Donegal faired the worst in Ulster during the Great Famine of the late 1840s, many of it's people emmigrated from the Port of Derry to America and other parts of the world.

Donegal Town is now the largest village in the northwest of Ireland, with a population of about 3,000. It's always been known for its thriving wool trade, this trend continues as you will see local craftspeople and the articles they create and sell.
