ROMA (The Eternal City)

Three Coins in the Fountain

Trevi Fountain
What an exciting city! The town seems to vibrate with energy. It was so amazing to actually see the sites that I had seen in photos for so many years. The movie Roman Holiday has always been a favorite of mine because of the beautiful and interesting scenes of Rome. After visiting this amazing city, I watched the movie "Gladiator" which shows the ancient and barbaric Rome (frightening). Todays's Rome is a puzzle of ancient ruins that fit very nicely into its modern attire. Rome sits on the banks of the Tiber River and is the capital of Italy since 1871.
For centuries Rome has been called the Eternal City.

The picture above is the famous Trevi Fountain which was designed by Nicola Salvi and completed in the 18th century. The baroque style is adorned with statues of gods and horses with two Tritons on either side of Neptune the Roman god of the sea. When you visit the fountain you must turn your back and throw a coin into the fountain,
this assures you will come back again to the great city of Rome.
Ponte Sant'Angelo & Hadrian's Tomb

Two Days in Rome

Many say this is the most stupendous view in Rome and I agree the River Tiber is certainly looks its best along side the Castel Sant 'Angelo.

Two days isn't sufficient time to see even the most important monuments in Rome. A week would not be enough time to see them all. But in two days you are left with a sense of Rome; a proud city with a rich and mighty heritage.
Italians Ride Motorcycles

Take a Tour

Rome is such a puzzle and finding the momuments on your own can be baffling. We were on a Cosmos Bus tour which drove us to several of the monuments but the last day we were on our own and a cab was better than trying to master the metro system in such a short time. However, don't take a cab if you have high blood pressure, the ride can be equated with a amusement park ride. Fares are not cheap, so we doubled up, actually six of us were stuffed in the cab. It's also a good idea to ask what the cost is going to be before you leave, or it might cost more than it should.
There are also full-day and half-day tours you can book at your hotel.

All the above has to be better than trying to drive in this perplexing city.

I remember the Victor Emmanuel Monument. You can just walk down from the train station on Via Nazionale to get there. Did you see lots of cats around the Colosseum?! :) There are hundreds of cats living near by.
